LOTD: More crazy underwear peoples

mmm… meaty goodness

Malibu Grill today… Chipotle tomorrow… I will not go hungry this weekend. :)

So worlds collided today at dinner… TLD came out and hung out with the masses. The Toms were at the same place at the same time. It was truly an experience.

Training was… well yeah. I better pass the test next week. Or else I’m never going back there ever again. Ever. Ever. We watched videos about how to treat people with special needs and international visitors. Helpful hints like, speak slowly and clearly, but do not shout. People who are blind are not deaf. If you think someone with a special need (i.e. a person in a wheelchair) might need assistance, ask if they need assistance. If someone doesn’t speak english, but they have a child or someone else with them who does, suggest asking that person to interpret for you. 6 hours… Six hours of my life, plus the other 15 hours over the last three weeks that I will never get back. This better be worth it. :) -J.

Fermionic condensate

Fermionic condensate? Dude… they never even taught me about Bose-Einstein condensate when I was in school. What is happening to our education system?!

New form of matter created in lab:

To make the condensate the researchers cooled potassium gas to a billionth of a degree above absolute zero - the temperature at which matter stops moving.

They confined the gas in a vacuum chamber and used magnetic fields and laser light to manipulate the potassium atoms into pairing up and forming the fermionic condensate.

It could be a step closer to an everyday, usable superconductor - a material that conducts electricity without losing any of its energy.

Adventures at the gas station

I was on my way to work yesterday when I noticed I needed to get gas. But you know how snow melts and becomes water… and then refreezees overnight and becomes ice, sealing your gas tank shut? Well, that kind of makes it really hard to get gas. It tooke me about 20 minutes to get the cover open and then fill up. Twenty minutes which I obviously have to spare in the morning on my way to work.

Today… adventures at the Smithsonian. Went in for my highlights tours of the Air and Space Museum and the American History Museum. One of the metro rails broke today, resulting in delays of over an hour… so that made my life a little difficult. Luckily, my daddy came to the rescue and dropped me off. I got there just in time to catch the 11 o’clock tour. Finished up there a little over an hour later, headed over to NAHM and was early for their next tour, so hung around for a little while. Went around… was a little disappointed that their information technology exhibit and the maritime section of the new “America on the Move” exhibit weren’t part of their highlights… but maybe I’ll go over and take a look at it next week. We’ll see.

Hung out at the castle for a bit after museuming and then headed out for a night on the town… or something like that. Ended up at Friday’s with the HOY-extended gang. Shenanigans ensued. I feel old. Time for sleep. :) -J.

Current book: The Mayor of Casterbridge by Thomas Hardy

Woo! Sam Beckett!

You’re Captain Archer! You’re always in control of situations and are very adventurous. You’re a leader, but you’re also laid back and willing to listen to what others have to say. You look a great deal like a scientist from 1999 named Dr. Sam Beckett.

Remember fallen astronauts - Jan. 29, 2004

NASA sets aside day to remember fallen astronauts:

“They are not with us today because when it mattered most, we failed. And so it is incumbent upon us to remember not just today, not once a year, not on the anniversaries, but every day, every single day that the consequences of us not getting it right are catastrophic, and each of those families will live with this consequence for the rest of their lives.”

WTS?

Alright… who are you people? And what do you want?

stalkers…

hahahah

ok, last blog of the day… really… Saw this and had to link it –

LOTD:HTTPanties

Another reason why I’m single…

This dude has a point, considering he pretty much just makes things up…

First of all, only two groups of guys think that intelligence makes a girl attractive: 1) guys that are emotionally intelligent and “regularly” intelligent (for lack of a better description) and 2) guys who romanticizee intelligence. So lets see…how many guys do you think these two groups consist of?

Group 1: If we assume that about 50% of the male population is intelligent (above avg by definition), I think we can also safely and conservatively assume about 1% of the male population is emotionally intelligent (by which I mean NOT an “insensitive bastard”). Of this 1%, I would gander that about 90% are gay. In the end we find a grand total of 0.05% of the population for this group. WOW!.

Group 2: Couldnt really give you the numbers on this one, but can you imagine what type of guys these guys are? Guys that romanticize intelligence? Answer: Big time geeks who didnt spend enough time with daddy…

And the search is over…

These past couple weeks I have been doing an extensive search for a gym/health/fitness center. And today… the search is complete! Most of the places I looked had my basic criteria, but the final decision came down to whether or not they had a pool. Not one of my necessities, but definitely a plus. So, now I am done. And I met my personal trainer, who I have an appointment with next week. I’m not sure how he’s going to feel about my refusal to quit cookies or lack of interest in all exercise equipment aside from the pool, although I wouldn’t really consider that equipment. But in any case, he seems friendly enough. I talked to him for like 5 minutes and I already know that he used to date a Korean girl, he’s active-duty in the army (for the last 17 years), and he speaks Spanish. And the SATs are biased… because the people who score the best on it are middle-class, asian girls who watch less than an hour of tv a day. Or something like that. Yeah, apparently I’m too young to be an engineer, but it figures because the SATs are biased just like that dumb movie said. And stuff. Or something.

Anyway, back home again. I commandeered Roy’s guest room last night while I hid in fear of the ice storm. I’m so pleased with the earlier night hours for my cell phone. I got home and called BFF while I made dinner. She told me gossip about people she doesn’t know very well and people I don’t know at all. It was fun. :) My life is incredibly boring; I know. Oh! But I finished The Bell Jar yesterday. It was much more anti-climactic than I expected. But it was a pretty good read. The ending was less than fulfilling, but I only say that because what I thought would happen didn’t. Not like a twist ending, just different.

Ok. That’s all for today. Time to eat more cookies. Have a good night all! :) -J.

What Is Your Battle Cry?

Yea, verily: Who is that, rampaging amidst the desert! It is Enjanerd, hands clutching a burning branch! And with a bloodthirsty scream, her voice cometh:

QOTD

Why do men break wind more than women? Because women can’t shut up long enough to build up the required pressure.
Scientists have discovered a food that diminishes a woman’s sex drive by 90%. It’s called a Wedding Cake.
Why do men die before their wives? They want to.

Snow

Here’s to you, Mr. Nice-snowblower-man

Today’s blog brought to you by the nice dude in the neighborhood who went around with his snowblower down the side streets and people’s driveways. What a nice person. :)

Spent the day cleaning, reading, and napping. What a great day! Almost done reading The Bell Jar. She is really crazy right now, so I know I’m at the best part. I don’t know if she’ll get better or not, but if she does, she better hurry up because there aren’t very many pages left for her to do that in. Other than that, sat around IMing with people. Maybe I’ll even make some phone calls later. Hehe… I’m so boring. Life is good. Eat more cookies. :) -J.

QOTD from BFF, quoting someone else: “Dreaming permits each and every one of us to be safely insane. Well, I am insane so I’ll just pretend that I’m asleep.”

Cookies!!

Back, and better than ever…

Ok, so my weekend was packed with non-stop, fun-filled adventures. I will just preface this by saying, I am not a social butterfly. As BFF and I decided on Saturday, I am accommodating and try to please others. It has little to do with my desire to actually interact with other humen. That is all.

Friday: Work. I looked around before I left and the place was deserted. I guess everybody snuck out while I was being a busy little worker bee. Headed over to check out a gym after work. Oh! I totally forgot to write about this before.

*side rant* So, I’ve been going around checking out a few gyms the past week or so to pick one that would be convenient for me, as well as meeting my gym criteria. Now, my sister warned me about going to look at gyms because when she went, they would take her on a tour and then give her a book’s worth of information about the different plans available and extras and such. Then they would try to bully her into signing up and stuff. Basically, just set aside a large chunk of time when going to talk to these people. Well, I went by two gyms and one place took about 30 minutes to tour and collect info on and the other place was about 15 minutes. Maybe a couple minutes more because I had to wait for the dude when I got there. Why such a large discrepancy in tour times? I think these people didn’t take me seriously. I don’t look like I’m really going to join their gym. Jerks. *end side rant*

Got a call from Roy while I was sitting in traffic, so I went over and hung out with him for a while. Hadn’t seen him in a while. Caught up and I tried to bully him into supplying me with more gossip, but alas… ;) After that, went by the castle to hang out with the family. Some interesting conversation and then headed home to get to bed and be rested for…

SATURDAY: Smithsonian day. The class is usually 6 hours long, but Saturday was computer learning day. So, we spent the first 3 hours with the dude teaching us how to find the arrow keys and use the menu in a DOS program, consisting only of arrowing up and down and hitting enter. Then there was supposed to be an hour break for lunch and then the last 2 hours would be practicing using this menu and filling out a worksheet. BUT he gave us the option of working through lunch, so I got to leave 3 hours early!! FREEDOM!!! Sigh… This hazing process better be worth getting to volunteer at the Smithsonian. Yeah… We’re volunteers. Shouldn’t they be nice to us and stuff? You’d think… Anyway, called people to share in my new-found freedom and then met up with Roy for lunch. Tried a Thai place clos-ish to where I work. It was pretty good. Left there to go by the HOY to pick up some tasty raspberry preserves for my project. The goal: Russian Tea Cookies. Refrigerated the dough to finish preparing after I got home from evening activities.

Saturday night: Went to the Cheesecake Factory in Friendship Heights. Hadn’t tried that one yet. I think the one in Ballston is now the only one in the tri-state area that I have not visited. I’ll have to add that to my list of places to visit. In any case, was there with TLD, TLD’s friend, his other friend (my evil twin), and evil twin’s friend. He was going for a Charlie’s Angels kinda thing, but he ended up just being outnumbered. Not that that’s a bad thing… ;) Anyway, it was lots of fun. AND it was finally revealed to me when TLD’s birthday is. I’ve been asking him almost every time I saw him for the last couple months. I felt kinda bad ditching after eating, but since I didn’t realize there were post-dinner activities, I had already told other people I would meet up with them after dinner. So, metro’d back partway with them and then parted ways. Headed up to AJB’s (AsianJockBoy) place for some poker shenanigans. Ended up talking to SPJ and BFF on my way over so I was standing outside on the phone with BFF for like 20 minutes before facing that which is social interaction. Didn’t turn out too bad. The conversation while we were playing was pretty one-track gambling talk, but otherwise, it was fun. Skipped out early because I couldn’t stop yawning. Came home and baked cookies with Planned. Then…

The russian tea cookies… Well, it turns out that it’s a bad idea to refrigerate the dough for russian tea cookies. As it is, the dough is a little crumbly, so when it bakes the cookies are flaky. Last time I used granulated sugar and I’m thinking that that offered a bit more structural integrity than the confectioners sugar that I used this time (as the recipe called for). That being the case, when I took the mixture out of the refrigerator, the butter had re-solidified and would not hold together because all other excess moisture had been absorbed by the powdered sugar. I ended up heating up the whole mixture in the oven for about 5 minutes before re-attempting to construct these cookies. End result: inferior quality cookies. Substandard cookie exchange cookies, but still of high enough quality for consumption. After that, I decided I needed to try another recipe because I didn’t have time to make another batch of these pretty cookies. Obstacle: No more butter. Keep in mind that my brother and I have both gone through and made a batch of cookies after I got home after midnight. It’s getting close to about 4am, so we decide to go grocery shopping! There’s one 24-hour Giant nearby, or so we thought… They close at midnight Saturday until 7am Sunday to restock. Three hours until they open… So we head over to the 24-hour Harris Teeter, which really is open 24/7. Collected groceries and then headed home. Got to bed about 5am and woke up bright and early to bake more cookies!

Cookieday: So, lots of cookies, puzzles, and snow. Did the whole cookie thing. There were chocolate-chip cookie bars, lemon bars, cheesecake bars, peanut-butter raisin nut cookies, cinnamon-sugar cookies, white morsel-macadamia nut cookies, and oatmeal-butterscotch cookies. We ended up with a very nice variety, considering most people didn’t really know what everyone else was making. Very cool. After cookies, we sat around and hung out. Brought out the Great Circle Challenge that TB got me for Christmas. And since it was too difficult for me to figure out, I let TWB and SPJ have at it. It took a combination of their intelligence, diligence, and 5 hours, but it was solved before day’s end. Granted, at that point, it was snowing, so everyone decided to just stick around here for the night. After all, there were still plenty of cookies to be consumed. Watched Men with Brooms until about 2am and I decided it was time for me to sleep.

Got up this morning and decided it wasn’t worth it for me to venture outside, so called in to let them know I wouldn’t be coming in to work today. And it looks like it’s going to start sleeting soon, which means no work for me tomorrow either. Ate more cookies and now here I am. :) Awesome weekend. Gotta go play in the snow now. :) -J.
