AAAGGGGGHHH. Poll flashy banners, flashy banners! My quality of life would depreciate greatly if I couldn’t do any of those things cept the drinking one. So I chose no alcohol. but define mind-altering substance? I get a natural from driving real fast in my car, would I have to give that up?
No, I think you could still drive. I wouldn’t consider that a substance, since you’re not consuming your car or anything like that.
I think mind-altering substance would only apply to a foreign matter that you would inhale, ingest, inject, or in some other way get into your blood-stream to alter your brain activity. So, your driving and stuff like Xtreme sports would still be fair game.
Yeah, it was a total no-brainer for me too. But the population who took the survey where I got this from was all over the place. I was hoping for explanations for other responses.
i have to wonder how the general population’s answers would change if something along the lines of ‘never again reading a book for pleasure’ was one of the options. granted, this is weingarten, so i presume that you know, people find SOME reading important. but it’s an interesting sample problem for both cases (here and the weingarten chat).
Oops… And I remembered wrong. This one was the predictable answer. It was the same list, but last choice that had more variety. Oh well.
That is an interesting question. Even though Weingarten has a wide audience, it’s still going to be far from being a normal population sample. It’d be cool to see how some of his poll results deviate from results of a random sample.
Well, I could still go to baseball games live, and I actually prefer to listen to games on the radio than to watch them on TV (unless it’s the Sox winning the World Series or something … that requires visual confirmation). Losing movies would be a downer, but I think I’ll still opt for my uisge beatha …
I feel like I cheated. I don’t drink at all so doing that last thing would be pretty gosh darn simple. I’m troubled by the fact that I had to reach the end of the list to find something worth giving up in order to remain alive. Man, that’s just too much to think about so early on a Monday morning!

easy choice – loose the mind altering substances (doing that anyway right now) – no TV? no Tasting food? Come on!

Definately TV … there’s no way I’m staying sober.

I think the results of this poll really show the true nerdiness of your readership, Enja.
Oh, and…HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Carter, that means no movies either… and no baseball or whatever else you watch. But, to each his own.
Bro, yeah, I know my readers are nerdy. That’s probably the only thing keeping them around… ;) Thanks!

Don’t even joke about the possibility of never having alcohol again. That’s just not funny.

Happy belated birthday. Hope it was a good one.

Aw, that’s not cheating. According to that logic, I’d be cheating too.
And thanks! I had an awesome birthday. :)
