Miracle Grow
Posted in Life on 03/01/2006 08:51 pm by enjanerdAround Christmas time, Ian’s grandmother gave me an Amaryllis bulb as a Christmas/housewarming present thing. It came in a box with a pot and a bag of dirt. I put it aside for when I felt I would be a responsible plant taker-carer and didn’t think much else of it. In the meantime, I have almost killed a poinsettia, which Ian is slowly nursing back to health. And we are succeeding in keeping a dwarf umbrella tree alive.
At the cookie exchange this past weekend, while everyone was admiring how close to death the poinsettia was, Ian noticed the box with the bulb in it. There were leaves sticking out, so he investigated…
This bulb bloomed inside a cardboard box with no sunlight, no soil, and
no water!
How does that happen? Apparently, the instructions
that weren’t on the box: Always store un-planted bulbs in a cool place between 40-50 deg. F. Sigh… Oh well. The bulb has been soaked and replanted. We’ll see how it does with dirt this time. ;)

Well I hope it starts to thrive now. Plants have been committing suicide around me for many years now.
