Flash from the Past

Tonight, I watched a 1961 film about Boundary Layers. I was able to do this for my online class by downloading it and watching it in RealPlayer. I find that awesome. Like watching Voltron in HD.

Their effects are pretty cool. Although, I think it’s just black and white footage of a wind tunnel. It’s retro.

Also, the site that has the videos posted also has the obituary for the guy who founded this series of films. It’s like I’m learning from a zombie. He came back from the dead to feed my braaaaaiiiinn.

Ok, I’m tired. ‘Nite!

Skool

Man, so many people are actually updating their blogs these days. I feel bad for neglecting mine. ;)

Busy with school. And I only have about 45 more seconds to write because I’m waiting for a lecture to download. Got a cold. Went to a conference last week for work; caught up with an old classmate and some former coworkers. Stayed at my sis’s flu-infested house. Met up with people for TLD’s bday. Visited the family for my dad’s birthday. Got a WII!!! Purchased a couch… getting delivered next week.

And my time’s up. Oh and need to move laundry. Yeeps.

Current craving: Birthday Cake.

I would’ve used the Pony Express

As webmaster for a local chapter of an engineering society, I occasionally get phone calls or emails from people with updates to post. The latest was particularly special.

I received a phone call a few weeks ago asking to confirm my work address. The person wanted to mail something to me. So, he called my office number and we had a 2-minute conversation.

Last week, I received a letter in the mail. Oh joy! I open it up and find 2 pages of our website printed out with 4 hand-written comments on them. Comments including, “Should say T&R Liaison, not just T&R,” and “The new librarian is [illegible name].”

The guy called me to confirm my address, which would have taken just as long as it would have to say, “Hey, make these minor changes to the website.” Or, *gasp* why not email me the comments?? I ended up emailing a response back because I couldn’t read the handwriting and then starting a chain of at least a half dozen more emails trying to confirm this person’s name and contact info.

The best part? The date on the comments was 12/7/2006. It took over a month to get these names changed because they were unwilling to use modern technology. Instead, they printed out the website and mailed it to me. You guys are definitely engineers…

“Networking” Queen

I was beyond proud yesterday when I heard that a VP at my former job was asking around about how I was doing… in order to fish around for some gossip: 90-day Stop Work Order.

He had heard some stuff on Thursday, but wanted to know my inside info. I didn’t find out details until mid-afternoon, but all his info checked out. Two days before it hit the news too… I sent him an email back and he replied with more rumors that he heard from “overseas friends.” VP level gossip? Awesome!

FYI, for those in the DC area:

Restaurant week is Jan 8-14.

Scarf Prototype

My latest completed project. Finished it just in time for my family White Elephant exchange for Christmas. My mom ended up with it and I’m working on a green one now.

It was my second knitting project ever and is probably fancier than anything I’ve ever crocheted. There’s a pocket on the front sized for a cell phone or iPod and a slot to tuck the scarf through instead of having it wrap around. Got the idea for the slot from some cutesy website when I was Christmas shopping. The pocket was just me wanting more clothes with pockets.
