Happy People Day, everyone! :)
So many things going on. My synopsis of February so I can have a fresh start and write about things as they happen:
2/2 - Happy Groundhog day! Ian and I met up with Crit&Teach and my sis at the Cheesecake Factory. Haven’t had a chance to catch up with them in a while, so we ventured out to use the gift card they gave us for Friendmas. Good times!
2/5 - Happy Workaversary, Ian!
2/6 - Sofa Delivery. It is fantastically comfortable, but the delivery guys scuffed the corners and started a tear at one of the seams. We are waiting for sofa parts and then the repair guy is going to come back and fix up the sofa. All very strange to me. Sofas have parts?
2/8 - Got to take a day trip up to NY for work. I went by to visit our NY office (a block away from the Empire State Building!) before heading over to Hoboken to watch some model testing. It was pretty cool, but I think the DVD they made will be better. Each test run took about 15 seconds and then they would have to wait 10-15 minutes for the water to settle. Can’t have any residual waves… that would ruin *everything*.
I had fun riding the train. I don’t think I’ve been on a train since my family moved to Louisiana. That was 20 years ago. They’re so fancy now… I sat in the quiet car on the way up and caught up on some lectures and started my homework. There were even outlets next to some of the seats. So convenient!
2/9 - Happy belated birthday, Roy!
2/13 - Went out to dinner with the girlz. We were supposed to go to the spa after work, but it was icy and snowing, so we all ended up canceling and will reschedule later. Finished up early and went over to TLD’s for custard cake. Mmm!
2/14 - Happy Valentine’s Day! I had a test on Wednesday night and this was the first time in over 4 years when I haven’t made Valentine cookies. So sad. :( I also haven’t had a cookie exchange, which is usually some time between New Year’s and Presidents Day. I might just pass this year. We’ll see how things go.
Had a nice dinner at home with Ian after my test. Pretty low-key. He got me a shirt! So cute:
Mm… chocolate…
2/15 - Went with my sis and Eepie to visit Squidgey and Rock in Omaha. Lots of video games and food. We went to Iowa for my sister to satiate her gambling addiction. Went downtown and tried the “world’s best hot chocolate” at Aroma’s. I think I still prefer Burdick’s but this stuff was pretty good. It’s saying something when I couldn’t finish my drink because it was too sweet. Yeah, I’m sad for me too.
2/18 - Happy Chinese New Year! Went out for Chinese food at the place where Squidgey and Rock claimed our mother’s doppleganger works. She wasn’t there, but the chairs they had were the same as the ones at my parents’ house. Weird.
2/19 - Returned from Omaha just in time for dinner at my parents’ house. Ian was waiting for me at the airport when we landed with a batch of snickerdoodles! Mm!
2/20 - Happy Mardi Gras!
Checked my grades when I was uploading my homework for submittal this weekend and saw that my score for the test I took last Wednesday was 10/100. 10%. How is that even possible? I was a little freaked out, so I emailed my prof and found out that they had only graded one question so far. That’s a weird way to post grades. Anyway, didn’t do as well as I had hoped, but still much better than 10%. We’ll see how things go…
QOTD: “even if i were to work at a chocolate factory run by strippers, i think the day after a holiday weekend would still suck.”
LOTD: Pet Penguin!
Ah, my insurance…
I received a prescription from my primary care physician that my insurance wouldn’t pay for because I wasn’t diagnosed with narcolepsy. I then went to a neurologist to figure out what was wrong with me. He referred me to get a sleep study done. I had a follow-up appointment with the neurologist to find out what the results were.
I, in fact, did have narcolepsy. Now, my insurance will pay for my medication. Woo! What they won’t cover, however, is my follow-up visit to the doctor telling me what the diagnosis was. It was a pre-existing condition, so they won’t pay for me to see a doctor about it.
A pre-existing condition?? If I already had it, why wouldn’t they pay for the medication? I called my insurance to dispute this claim and the woman on the phone was too busy on IM to actually finish her own sentences. She kept getting distracted and not offering me information. Damn. I just realized I forgot to ask her for her name.
I asked her what the definition of a pre-existing condition was. “It’s, uh, you know… something you already had… before you went to this doctor.” Something I already had? Or something that was previously diagnosed? Because if my primary doctor telling you I “probably” had narcolepsy wasn’t enough to cover my medication, that shouldn’t be enough to make me pay for this visit to a specialist to confirm that I *have* narcolepsy.
Maybe this is why people don’t want to go see doctors. I like my doctor. I don’t particularly like her staff.
“What is her earliest appointment?”
“There’s an opening at 10am.”
“Oh, hm… that’s the earliest?”
“Well, you can come in at 9:15.”
“Ooh, that’s better.”
“How about 8:30?”
Seriously, yo. Earliest. I’m not trying to negotiate here.
And I definitely don’t like my insurance… They do their best to not pay for stuff and make me not want to see my doctor. So maybe if I just went ahead and fell asleep while driving, they would be ok with paying for my hospital bills. Or maybe I’d get to talk to the car insurance people then. I’m sure that will be much better.
I have to admit this baby shower thing wasn’t nearly as bad as I thought it would be. Walking in the door, everyone was given a necklace. It could be taken away from you if you were caught saying “baby.” Anna schooled everyone.
Then there was the baby food tasting thing. Nine jars of baby food with the labels removed. Try to identify each of them. Beef that smells like tuna? I have concerns. My mom won with a perfect score.
Other highlights include Anna going down to the basement to get a beer and being told to just bring the rest upstairs since she kept going down there for more. And Stephanie squealing and running away with the mudpie Ian and I brought. I didn’t think pregnant people moved that fast.
QOTD: “What’s an iTunes?”
Hey, Enjanerd! What are you doing tonight?
Going to a baby shower.
*Awesome.*
I hope they have a Wii there.
