Facebook

Ok, so over the past 5 (…10?) years I’ve signed up for pretty much all the big social networking sites that I came across. SixDegrees, Friendster, MySpace, Orkut, LinkedIn…

Over the last few years or so, basically since I graduated, these have mostly lost their appeal for me. I thought Orkut was cool on the sole basis of the Google affiliation. I got a MySpace account to read other people’s blogs. I’ve never even bothered to fill in my profile.

When all the newbies started at work last year, there was this big fuss about facebook and how everyone had an account and I should totally

get one. I was unimpressed and uninterested, so I didn’t bother. After the VT shootings, I was looking for some of my old classmates. A bunch of them, I email every once in a while, so I still have some contact info for them. And I transfer their phone numbers with each new cell phone. But it’s not like I talk to them often or regularly. I kind of do the IM away message stalking thing.

Anyway, I signed up for a facebook account and looked for people I knew. Within 12 hours or so, I got found by a few former classmates. And 2 weeks later, I’m, again, wondering what all the hype is. The night I signed up, I spent about an hour poking around looking for people. Then I looked again a few days later when I received my first post on my wall.

I just thought of it today, so I went to see if anything had changed. It hadn’t. I went to browse groups and on the first page, found Adderalics Anonymous – VT Chapter

. *gasp* That was something I could relate to! How exciting for me. Then, I clicked on it to view more and … it’s mostly a bunch of people looking for a dealer.
“I’m out :(”
“If anyone can help me out I would greatly appreciate it. willing to pay $$”
Ohh, two dollar signs. Is that like the in restaurant reviews? Should I hold out for $$$?
“what the biggest single dose you’ve ever taken?”

Sigh… Kids these days…

I think I’m getting old. Or maybe I’m just cranky. I just clicked on “Students Against the International Astronomical Union” and it made me laugh.

In 2006, The IAU stripped Pluto of its status as a planet. We will not stand for such an outrage.

PLUTO
1930-2006
At -382 degrees farenheit, it really is the coolest planet in the solar system.

That’s right, I said PLANET.

Poor Pluto.
