Mm..compatible

*gasp*

It wasn’t until last night that I tried syncing my PDA with Dellilah. And it doesn’t work. I should’ve looked into this. There was a high probability that this would happen. I’ve had my PDA since around 2000, I think. Yenny won it when she was working at CompUSA, but didn’t think she would use it, so she gave it to me. I later forgot to replace the batteries and the stuff that was on the screen when the batteries died burned into the display. I was able to collect on the warranty though, but that model was discontinued. So, I got a relatively inexpensive upgrade (this one came with a charger that hooks into the USB thingy, so I didn’t have to worry about batteries anymore either!). :)

I haven’t used it much in the past couple years, but it was a lifesaver through college. And I figured with my reinvigorated high tech lifestyle and recent college flashbacks, I should really consider carrying that around with me again. Especially since my memory seems to be going.

But then this. Another reason for me to dislike Vista. Of course it’s not the PDA’s fault. Hm. I think it really needs a name. Oh! I will name him David. After The Edge… because it’s a Handspring Visor Edge. Yeah, I know I’m not as clever as I like to think I am. Just play along. It’ll make me feel better.

*2-hour intermission*

Oh! OOH!! Ok, so I lied to the Palm site to see if I could try the syncing software on Vista anyway and it works!! The site specifically says that the Visor Edge is not compatible with Vista. I downloaded a version of Palm Desktop for XP which is not the latest version (I thought that might have a better chance of getting along with David). There are some known incompatibilities, but nothing that I really need anyway. It’s enough to sync email, calendar, address book, task list, and notes, which is pretty much all I ever used anyway.

Uf. I just imported/exported my address book from gmail to thunderbird to Palm and from my old computer to Dellilah so it would be up-to-date info in the right format. It ended up being way more trouble than I thought because I couldn’t get my address book to update from my old computer. But then everything looked like it was working on Dellilah… Until I got the blue-screen of death. She’s too young for that! But after the reboot, syncing was successful without a glitch. I am so

. I’m glad it was a free trial because I’m so mad at it right now.

- It got my different calendars confused and duplicated events every time I tried to sync.
- It would ask if I was sure I wanted the events that I deleted on Palm Desktop to apply to Google Calendar. The first time I said no, so it made a duplicate of everything. Next time, I said yes and it deleted everything, not just the one instance I had actually deleted.
- It saved all my main calendar items as unfiled, so when I synced, none of the unfiled events were synced.
- When I tried to sync just my main calendar, it saved all my separate calendar events into my main calendar.

I don’t even know how to fix this now. It’s all messed up. And the recurring events I had were changed into individual events, so I can’t move all my saturday lunches to sunday lunches or something. I have to either go through and move them all individually or delete them individually and create a new recurring event. Definitely wouldn’t recommend this or consider buying it. Next time I’ll be sure to export a copy of my calendar before trying out something new.Chocolat download
