Happy new year, everyone!
Had lunch with the parents, knitted some, watched Gilmore Girls, and traded 2 ducks for some chow fun. It was an exciting day. :)

I love that Friendmas is starting to collect traditions aside from just occurring every year. So tired right now though. Will probably link to Squidgey’s entry later when she posts pictures. Yes, I’m that lazy. ;)
So glad almost everyone was still able to make it, even though we’ve been having to relocate the past couple years. And thanks Santa!! I got a new game, some cookies, and a spiffy light for my bike so I can put safety first. Woohoo!Once Upon a Forest ipod
This was an interesting Christmas. The food was a little different from years past… no turkey or mashed potatoes. There was still way too much food and it was all delicious though, so it was all good. The white elephant exchange was entertaining, I guess. We all picked numbers and then had to pretend we were Sonny to pick out what we thought he would like. And the baby participated too, so we let her have whatever she crawled toward… which, surprisingly, was a sparkly gift bag. I totally won Christmas though: TurboTax!! :)
After Lenny & co headed out, there were some lively discussions going back and forth about what we should do about gift exchanges in future years. This devolved into a religious discussion and the “true” meaning of Christmas. And that quickly lead to the history of Helen Keller. Christmas was weird. But fun. And family: important, etc.
Anyway, spending the day listening to Christmas music, cleaning, and knitting. Had a few errands I meant to take care of today, but the rain is putting a big damper on any motivation I may have had to go outside. Oh well. Nothing that I can’t take care of next weekend.
On Christmas night, Santa is in a superposition of quantum states, smeared out all the way around the planet, and each quantum state delivers presents to a single child. This explains why it is so important that children are asleep, because if just one child sees Santa, he immediately collapses into a single state, in accordance with Heisenberg. This would mean that no other children would receive presents that Christmas. This theory elegantly avoids all the flaws in the conventional theory. The only problem is that you will have to explain quantum theory to your children before you tell them about Santa.

I finally got to bed at a normal hour tonight… And then I woke up at 3:30 freaking out about Christmas. Presents, cards, decorations… Somehow, I feel so completely unprepared all of a sudden. I tried to ignore it and go back to sleep. That continued unsuccessfully for almost an hour.
In the past half hour, I have found one more gift and put together my Christmas card list. And I’ve decided that I think tabbed documents, like they do for spreadsheets, would be good. I want a text file that would have separate tabs for letter drafts, addresses, gift list, etc. I mean, I guess I could just start a new page or something, but that doesn’t sound as efficient as separate tabs would be.

This has been a weird year for me. I think I’ve grown closer to different people than I would have expected a year ago. And, well, not to others. I find myself grasping at old friendships now more than ever. Looking for that sense of familiarity and comfort.
I don’t really know where I was going with this. But things I am thankful for:
- Family, old and new — lots of new spouses and babies this year. Yeah, I know I’m all anti-babies, but they’ll grow into interactive humans some day.
- Friends. They can move away, but with the power of the Internets, they can never actually disappear. Even the ones who are local… I don’t get to see them as often as I should. And I’m thankful that my friends are of the variety that we always seem to pick up wherever we last left off. *Insert more sappy stuff here.*
- Getting over the flu. Thanks to my mom for sending me home last weekend with way too much food and soup. Thanks to Ian for getting me medicine and cookies and making sure there was always juice in the fridge.
- My shiny new library card.
- The new gym I have access to through work that will allow me to bike to work without being stinky all day. Now, I just need a bike…
- And the usual: home, job, etc. All the material things that let us enjoy the everything else.Seabiscuit ipod

First Thanksgiving was last Saturday before I got back from Florida. My family did their usual lunch thing, but with Thanksgivingier food than usual. I stopped by the parents’ on my way home and had some dinner with them. In retrospect, I maybe shouldn’t have stopped by. I hope they didn’t catch my disease. I was definitely in the prime of my contagiousness. It was interesting, as per the usual… my grandmother asking me personal questions, my father telling her not to ask, then my mother jumping in to tell me that things seemed so happy. I told them about the seashells I collected.
Tonight will be second Thanksgiving. My aunt is hosting an early Thanksgiving for all of us since my mother has decided to spend tomorrow with her other family. (Her father and siblings, not like a secret family that she has hidden from us for decades and is now not so secretly trying to reveal to us. That’s not the case at all. Clearly.) I don’t know what they’re all up to tomorrow, but tonight is the night for giving thanks.
Third Thanksgiving is going to be on Saturday after my mom gets back. I think it’s going to be the usual crew. Same as tonight except with my mom.
Also have tentative plans for a BFF get-together. It seems like it’s been ages since I’ve seen her.
This is the first year in a while that I haven’t had double Thanksgiving on Thanksgiving. Actually, this is the first year with no Thanksgiving on Thanksgiving. But 3 Thanksgivings spread out over the week isn’t too bad. And I get pie practically every day. We’ll see how it goes.XIII trailer
- Halloween donuts
- Free Chipotle
- Got a second monitor set up in my office
- Mrs. Boss and baby + costume
- Halloween cookies
- Having a friend ask me for advice, after reading my blog, as to whether she should buy Transformers without watching it first. Total no-brainer.
- Boots arrived today!

(I maybe need some time to get used to them. They’re very comfortable, but I kept getting caught on things and misjudging my foot placement.)
- Picked up prescription. Starting tomorrow: back on adderall!
- Hallowine
Also, I got all my forms sent out for to register for the PE exam. I was frantically double-checking my forms when I realized there was a possibility that I lied to myself and wrote the wrong date on my calendar to make sure I got everything filled out on time. The only problem is that I have no idea what the actual deadline is and I couldn’t find it on the website. So… I’m either going to just make the deadline or I might be early. I don’t even know how I’ll find out.

Man, what’s with people? It’s like no one around here celebrates Flag Day. Sigh…
Happy Flag Day!! :)Of Human Bondage trailer
Whereas May 22, 2007 is National Maritime Day
,
Whereas no one cares about this holiday,
Whereas every time this holiday is mentioned, someone brings up Flag Day (which is not the same, but similar in that it is also a holiday),
Therefore, be it resolved that:
If you see a ship, drink a shot;
If you see a cargo ship flying an american flag, finish off the bottle;
If you see a Navy vessel, gargle salt water.
