Drug bust

Went in to DC this morning to help out with yard work for the Ronald McDonald House. On the way back, saw a drug bust on the street corner right after passing cars that were pro-Pope. There were like 4 of them. Anyway, going to a housewarming doober this afternoon. Gotta nap before then. :) -J.

woo!

I made it! I made it! Ok, so 3 miles isn’t all that exciting to cheer about, but I went out in the rainy wind and did my thing. Back home… need to eat and then going to make a boat with my sister. The exciting life I lead… :) -J.

National Race for the Cure

Heya people,
This is a little last minute, but I’m planning to run/walk the Race for the Cure this Saturday to raise money for breast cancer. Go here, if you would like to make a pledge/donation. Thanks all! :) -J.

Yesterday’s blog, the extended edition

The blunder that was Secret Window. I suggested to ITP last weekend that we go watch. Thought he’d want to see it because he likes Johnny Depp. He looked it up and didn’t want to see it because it got bad reviews, but thought I really wanted to see it and that was why I had suggested it. Ended up figuring out in the middle of the movie that neither of us really had a particular interest in seeing it. (Hey, Ben– Is that ironic?) As TR put it, “Strange things happen when people listen to each other.” Movie wasn’t too bad… A bit cliche and not very much to the plot, but it was ok.

For those of you who don’t know, I’m a heartless beeyatch who doesn’t get along with kids. I mean, I don’t actively dislike them, and most of them are cute enough and all, but there are a lot of bad kids out there. And it’s not so much that I blame them for being rotten people, it’s that I don’t like the bad parents that result in bad children. I get along just fine with well-behaved children and everything’s happy. Anyway, working at Udvar-Hazy gives me hope. I no longer feel comfortable saying I hate children. It never really was true, but I was ok saying it because there are so many bratty kids out there. This weekend was pretty busy and there were a lot of kids milling about. For the most part, only adults come up to the info desk to ask questions. They often have kids with them, but they do the asking. For whatever reason, a bunch of kids came up to to ask questions on Saturday. Maybe it has something to do with the kind of parent who would think to bring their child to a museum, but these kids were so well-behaved and polite. The funniest kid came and up asked about one of the on-going children’s activities. I told him I would look it up and see if it was scheduled for that day. Before I even had a chance to type in my search, he said, “If it’s possible, would you please look quickly? I have to meet my father at the simulator soon.” I can’t even get mad at him for being impatient because he was so polite about telling me to hurry up. There was also another kid… probably about 3 or 4 who came running up and bonked his head on the desk. He was so excited about getting a map that he forgot that he hurt himself. I asked him and his father if they had any questions and the father said no… he just didn’t think his son wanted to leave. Aww… Oh and speaking of good parents… Group of about 8 people, 5 kids with them, all under about 8 years old. They grabbed a bunch of maps, gave one to each of the kids, and one of the adults in the group points to the info desk sign… “See this? Bombardier. If we get separated, meet here.” And then she realized… most of these kids can’t understand a map, nor can they read yet. At least she was trying to be responsible. Good work.

The weather yesterday was gorgeous. Went on a picnic with ITP, SPJ, and Puffy’sFavoriteAsian. Wandered around Great Falls for a bit and did the nature thing. I was lazy and didn’t bring my camera, but I think PFA got some nice pictures of the crane that we followed down to the water*. Pretty bird… pretty bird…

After that, quantity family time. Went up to have dinner with Planned. He’s doing a training thing up in MD, so he might have time to come play whenever he’s not learning and stuff.

Also, this weekend I was compared to Amelia Bedelia, Dr. Peter Venkman, and a Mazda commercial. Woo. :) -J.

QOTD (Stolen from someone’s away message): “Back in 2000 a Republican friend warned me that if I voted for Al Gore and he won, the stock market would tank, we’d lose millions of jobs, and our military would be totally overstretched. You know what? I did vote for Gore, he did win, and I’ll be damned if all those things didn’t come true!” – James Carville

EDIT: Oh! I forgot to write about one of our conversation topics Saturday night. Turns out TB was the only one in the room who had not tried some sort of pet food. Totally missing out. Mm… jerky…

Weekend recap

Got up Saturday and loafed around for a few hours before plastering a smile on my face for 4 hours. It was fun though. Got a few more interesting questions this week. Someone came up asking about the dimensions of the hangar. And they were doing a kite thing, so all these families kept walking past with these kites the kids had decorated… faces, monsters, pretty butterflies. It was cute. After that, played the part of social butterfly tracking people down for Sunday’s bbq. Went and met up with ITP before heading over to my coworker’s birthday shindig.

The birthday thing turned out to be much more lowkey than I expected. Maybe it was just early in the evening though. In any case, that was pretty fun. Hung out in a bar and just chatted for a bit. At one point, the group kind of split off into women and men groups… Bad idea. Well, bad idea if you’re looking for “normal” conversation..? I dunno. Anyway, groups split up. Within half a minute: porn and birth control. Nice… Left a bit early to go get food. Was again disappointed by Panera. This time because they close too early on Saturday nights. Go figure.

Sunday… lunch at the castle, then bbq at ITP’s. Should’ve gotten more cookies, but other than that, everything was good. Oh yeah. And Duke lost. Woo. Oh and since I didn’t get around to blogging last night, happy belated pi day. Hehe. Mmm… pi… :) -J.

Edit: Haha… my bf’s just as cool as Wil Wheaton.

Hail to the internet!

*gigggle*

Yay! My magical sister fixed the internet! :) I can blog from my room once again. Woo!

Spent yesterday evening with TWB. Watched a movie and then ended up sitting around talking for close to 4 hours. Just in time to get him home to go on a road trip with his pappy. Strange fellows, really.

Today… Got up to go be nice to people at the museum. It was pretty uneventful. “Where is the bathroom?” “How do I get up to the tower?” “What IMAX movies are playing?” Headed over to my sis’s place after that. Hung out with the HOY gang for a bit before heading back over to straighten up for guests. As usual, food, family, friends, and fun. Mix in a little karaoke and wacky hijinks. :) -J.

I’ve figured out why I’m so lazy: I have recumbent DNA.
Condoms should be used on every conceivable occasion.
Reading while sunbathing makes you well red.
When two egotists meet, it’s an I for an I.
A bicycle can’t stand on its own because it is two tired.

mmm… meaty goodness

Malibu Grill today… Chipotle tomorrow… I will not go hungry this weekend. :)

So worlds collided today at dinner… TLD came out and hung out with the masses. The Toms were at the same place at the same time. It was truly an experience.

Training was… well yeah. I better pass the test next week. Or else I’m never going back there ever again. Ever. Ever. We watched videos about how to treat people with special needs and international visitors. Helpful hints like, speak slowly and clearly, but do not shout. People who are blind are not deaf. If you think someone with a special need (i.e. a person in a wheelchair) might need assistance, ask if they need assistance. If someone doesn’t speak english, but they have a child or someone else with them who does, suggest asking that person to interpret for you. 6 hours… Six hours of my life, plus the other 15 hours over the last three weeks that I will never get back. This better be worth it. :) -J.

Adventures at the gas station

I was on my way to work yesterday when I noticed I needed to get gas. But you know how snow melts and becomes water… and then refreezees overnight and becomes ice, sealing your gas tank shut? Well, that kind of makes it really hard to get gas. It tooke me about 20 minutes to get the cover open and then fill up. Twenty minutes which I obviously have to spare in the morning on my way to work.

Today… adventures at the Smithsonian. Went in for my highlights tours of the Air and Space Museum and the American History Museum. One of the metro rails broke today, resulting in delays of over an hour… so that made my life a little difficult. Luckily, my daddy came to the rescue and dropped me off. I got there just in time to catch the 11 o’clock tour. Finished up there a little over an hour later, headed over to NAHM and was early for their next tour, so hung around for a little while. Went around… was a little disappointed that their information technology exhibit and the maritime section of the new “America on the Move” exhibit weren’t part of their highlights… but maybe I’ll go over and take a look at it next week. We’ll see.

Hung out at the castle for a bit after museuming and then headed out for a night on the town… or something like that. Ended up at Friday’s with the HOY-extended gang. Shenanigans ensued. I feel old. Time for sleep. :) -J.

Current book: The Mayor of Casterbridge by Thomas Hardy

Why am I still awake? Because I only got 4 hours of sleep last night.

Friday @ Fridays. There was a gathering of spheres… including 75% of the sibling clan, sibling spheres, TaxBreak sphere, Matt sphere => 13 people total.

Ducked out after dinner while most of the group headed out to Carpool. Went home and watched Bowling for Columbine with Planned, Thuy, Roy, and Roo. This was an interesting movie. To me, the point was to get people thinking about what causes violence in America. There are so many varying theories which are not supported when we are compared with other countries with comparable occurrences of the suggested causes (i.e. availability of gun, violent music/tv/movies, etc.) However, other views ranged from biased anti-gun propaganda to anti-media propaganda. Anyway, it was sad. But entertainingly satirical. Don’t take it personally when you watch it, and you’ll probably enjoy it.

Saturday… started the morning off bright and early with a 5k jog/walk for the FannieMae Foundation’s Help the Homeless Program. Had to keep up with Everything who kept me jogging at a decent pace. We finished in a little over half an hour. A personal best (and the first time I have completed anything close to a 3-mile run). Played some Animal Crossing, had lunch at Bombay Bistro, went to Ikea…

*Dresser update*: all is well. The instructions were faxed, the missing part retrieved, and the dresser complete (thanks to help from brother#2 while I was out carousing)! And Ikea is back on my good list.

Went to dinner with some people at Busara Thai then headed over to Citie (a some-what upscale club on a sketchy-looking street) in lieu of bowling. I think, for once, I might have preferred the bowling. Ah well. It was an experience nonetheless. I must broaden my horizons… And boldly go where I have never had any desire to go before… Left there and hung out with Roy for a little while before heading home. And that about sums up my night. Time for sleep. :) -J.
