Excitement!

Ooh! I got *2* phone calls in one night! At the same time. Haha… I guess I will use the hu-mans for entertainment now. :)

Trash Talkin'

Sigh… I have this growing list of things I wanted to blog about, but with each day that passes and I don’t write something, the more outdated some of these topics get.

Examples:
- New toaster oven, its awesomeness and how it betrayed me.
- My addiction to Super Paper Mario (which I beat and stopped playing about a month ago).
- ALS Walk in about 2.5 weeks.

And then there’s the rule Sonny’s friends made up for the fantasy football league a week ago:
“So am I to assume that, since this is a family league, I’m not allowed to make a comment about your mom? Because if not, damn you.”
“You know, you’re right. How ’bout this? Any moms that aren’t actually in the league are fair game.”

QOTD also from the fantasy football message board: “He’s got a tougher schedule than most, but he’s on-ig-it like Kurt Vonnegut.”download Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince movie Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs trailer

Friendmas!!

The HOY Reunion was a success! As tradition continues, my sis threw a party at my place to reunite with former roommates and friends who have moved out of the area. Lots of games, lots of food, lots of people.

Thanks to all the friends who came over for the fun! And thanks for the guests who went above and beyond to bring supplies over and who even emptied my trash mid-party. I finally did clean-up today after looking at the mess for 2 days. Everything was cleaned up in the time it took for a batch of brownies to bake. Pretty impressive.

Only 2 complaints about the noise this time. Not bad at all. Happy new year!Still Smokin psp Showdown in Little Tokyo trailer

The last of the mud pie

So, SPJ was in town this weekend. He stopped in tonight to have dinner with Ian and me. It was very exciting. We cooked and ate at home. Yeah, I know. That shouldn’t be such an unusual thing. But growing up, both Ian and I had families that ate out only when it was a special occasion. So, now, we eat out all the time so every night is special. Or something like that. Anyway, we usually meet people out at a restaurant when we get together. But since it was a weeknight and we all lead busy lives, we decided to stay in and forgo the restaurant wait and the noisy atmosphere.

It was an incredibly simple meal. I made the noodles last night and picked up a bag of salad on sale yesterday. Ian was working at home today, so he browned some ground beef and finished just as I was getting home. Mixed the meat and noodles with some sauce and cheese and put it in the oven to bake. Ziti: The lazy man’s lasagna. Sean showed up just as the ziti was finishing. We caught up some and then sat down with the salad while everything else finished baking.

And to top everything off, we finished off the mud pie I made last weekend for all the birthdays. Mm!

We sat around for about 3 hours catching up on gossip and eating. A lot of interesting news, including an engagement, a pregnancy, and some biting attacks. :)

Mud Pie

INGREDIENTS:
Brownie mix
Caramel ice cream topping
Ice cream, 2 flavors
Oreos, crushed

DIRECTIONS:
1. Prepare brownie mix as instructed and bake in a 9″ round pan. (I used a springform pan, so the whole pie could be constructed in there.) Cool completely.
2. With a 1/2 teaspoon measuring spoon or a melon baller, scoop some spoonfuls of brownie out. Set aside for later.
3. Drizzle brownie with caramel. Freeze for 30 minutes.
4. Spread a layer of ice cream on the brownie. (I used coffee flavor.) Place saved brownie chunks on top of ice cream. Press firmly in place. Freeze until set.
5. Spread second layer of ice cream (I used peanut butter chocolate).
6. Spread crushed cookies on top of ice cream and press in to set. Drizzle with caramel.
7. Freeze until ready to serve.

NOTE: I’m not sure if taking scoops out of the brownie really does anything, but it makes for a pretty cool profile when you cut into the pie. I kind of picture it as interlocking layers, so the ice cream doesn’t slide around.

Put toothpicks in the top layer, if covering with plastic wrap so it doesn’t stick to the caramel.

Dogfish Head

Went out to Rustico last night with Ian, NewGirl, and NewGirl’s brother. Loads of fun and they were doing a special “Dogfish Head Days of Summer The House by the Cemetery full movie Worlds Greatest Dad download The Day the Earth Stood Still video

” beer night. They had their usual menu of beer, but they also had some special ones from the brewery. And they were giving out Dogfish Head pint glasses with each beer, so Ian is well on his way to collecting an 8-glass set. Yeah, it was a fun night. :)

Baseball

TLD got a group together Saturday night to go see a Potomac Nationals game. They were up against the Wilmington Blue Rocks, affiliated with the Red Sox. Most of the excitement occurred in the first 3 innings, where a total of 10 runs were scored. Then I guess they got tired or something because only one run was made the rest of the game. But, then again, you don’t go to minor league baseball games for the baseball.

Ian was there for the salted peanuts in the shells

. How do they do that?! (Yes, yes… I know how they do it.) Then there were the gimmicky shenanigans between innings and, of course, the fireworks after the game. The one thing I had not expected to see at the game was TLD eating a bug. Oh, yes. He was talking… then a bug was flying around. He didn’t think a bug would fly in his mouth, so he kept right on talking. And the bug kept right on flying… Oh, it was a scene.

Also, am I the last person to discover dots? You know, the ice cream of the future. I’m asking this in the direction of my siblings. I didn’t know about it, so you guys didn’t either, right?

Afterward, there were the fireworks, with accompanying music. Interesting choices…

Cake = Party

Woo!

Ian and I started Saturday out with a quick trip to Costco for some last minute snacks for our party. He did some cleaning while I baked up some cookies. We finished much earlier than expected, so we took a break and went down to the pool and then headed over to Toys R Us for some Animal Crossing awesomeness. We spent almost an hour at Toys R Us trying to get the 6th Mario item, but with Ian’s diligence, we finally succeeded. Also, thanks to Sonny for looking up and double-checking the number of items we were trying to get.

Got home and finished up some dishes before Sean arrived a little early to have dinner with us. Soon after, people started showing up. Sonny and Ben had decorated a cake and brought it over to ensure that we had a party:

Pirate Cake.JPG

It was so cool. The cake was hollowed out and filled with Reese’s pieces. The sand surrounding the cake was crushed up vanilla wafers, in which they hid pieces of gold. I wish I had taken a picture with the lid open, but it really was a pretty authentic cake treasure chest.

Anyway, about a dozen people showed up: friends, coworkers, siblings, siblings’ friends. I’m incredibly pleased that the party didn’t split up into small cliques this time with groups gathered in different areas of the apartment. Everyone seemed to have something in common that they could chat with other people about. Mostly, it was just a competition for being the biggest nerd.

Around midnight or so, we got our first complaint that we were talking too loudly and there was thumping. With a dozen people sitting around chatting and music barely audible in the background, I was skeptical. But our living room is right next to our condo board president’s bedroom, so we moved everyone to the other end of the living room to try to alleviate matters.

Twenty minutes later, with our guests gathered in half our living room talking in hushed whispers, we got another call from the front desk saying there was still too much thumping and the police would be called if they needed to complain again. It seemed obvious by the fact that I could hear everything on the phone and she could hear me clearly that it couldn’t be that loud in my apartment. But that seemed irrelevant to the situation.

I think everyone thought it was amusing enough that they wanted to stick around and find out what happened. So, at least that didn’t ruin everyone’s fun. The last of the guests trailed out a little after 3, with no police officers to speak of. It was an incredibly entertaining night. If only there had been more thumping…

Boston

Woo! Happy Arbor Day weekend!

Spent the weekend with Ian up in Boston. Went up for his friend’s 30th birthday party. Man… people are old. ;) We hung out with the friend, his wife, and their kid for most of Saturday. Went to the park and a crepe place. Played around in the playground for a while and then headed back to their place for naps.

Saturday night, we met up with a bunch of other people at Bukowsky’s and happened to run into a group of people Ian also knew who just happened to be hanging out there that evening. There was the wheel of beer and white trash cheese dip… That’s about all I’ll say about that.

We got up relatively early on Sunday to meet up with some people for breakfast and wandered around Cambridge for the day. Walked around, ran some errands with them, and then got lunch before going to Burdicks! Best hot chocolate ever

. After that headed back to their place to watch some baseball and then Ian and I made our way back to suburbia for the birthday bash.

Met lots of people. Ate lots of food. Spent most of the evening just chatting with people, figuring out how they tied into this group and explaining how I happened to show up from another state. Turned into a pretty cool party.

Went to bed… got up at 4am. Caught 6:40 flight, then went straight in to work. I should have scheduled a nap.

*sniffle*

Squidgey and Rock’s going away party was this weekend. Lots of food, lots of people… I got to catch up with Rock’s parents and grandparents. I didn’t see his grandma with her bottle of booze, but I didn’t ask either. Saw lots of Squidgey’s family and met a bunch of her friends and relatives… including her elusive bff. Also in attendance were Crit and his girl, Jackee, and half my fam. Not in attendance: Darryl Green.

Spent most of the party catching up with people… then going out to jump on the trampoline after it stopped raining.

Sounded like Squidgey and Rock both had a lot of quantity family time planned after the party, but I’m hoping I’ll catch them once more before they skip town toward the end of the week. :)Marple: The Body in the Library movie

Cookie Exchange!

Fantastic turnout at this weekend’s cookie exchange. I think it was the best one yet.

Ian got his pan cookies done in the morning and gave the condo a nice cookie smell to it (so I didn’t need to light my cookie candle). Sonny and Yenny got there just in time to help set up some finishing touches. My parents and gramma arrived next with enough noodles and chicken for everyone (to eat there and to take leftovers home!). Also in attendance were Ian’s mom, my aunt and uncle, TLD, Healey, Jackee, SPJ, Lenny, and Stephanie. Yeah, like I said… We had a good turnout this year. :)
