Baby, I burned a techno mix CD that reminds me of your face

.!.

Last Friday, we had a Thanksgiving potluck thing at work. There was so much food and not enough people, so they ended up with something like 3 whole turkeys left over at the end of the day. Good eats though. :)

Saturday started out with the Homeless Walk. I was pleased to overhear two teenage girls on the metro get up so “the old people could sit down.” They also seemed to grasp the concept of standing away from the doors so traffic could flow more quickly. Other highlights: saw a woman with a dog in her backpack, lots of interesting music along the walk, and a huge turnout for the event.

Spent much of the rest of the day just being lazy. Hung out at my parents for a little while doing the lunch thing. Then, went to Costco to pick up a Christmas present. Also, found the World’s Softest Socks there. *Awesome*

Saturday night was … different. Sonny ordered the Ultimate Fighting Championship on pay-per-view. So, I hung out with him, his friends, and Ian and watched some Ultimate Fighting. I had only watched once before (when I got home some weekend night and Sonny had it on), but I think that was enough preparation. It had almost as much drama as professional wrestling, but not as fake.

Sunday, did some grocery shopping and then hung out with Ian sorting clothes. Did the family dinner thing and was on a walk with the boys and the dog when I got a call from my sister to go watch Harry Potter.

Of course I don’t want to see a 10pm showing; I have work tomorrow. Yeah, that took about 30 seconds to convince me otherwise. Hehe.

Movie was good. Better than the previous ones. Kind of on crack because they tried to squeeze so much from the book into the movie and had to make the story move fast. There was specifically one part that seemed poorly cut. The quidditch world cup: they show up, then there’s celebrating. For which team? What happened? No one knows. Then there was the whole thing with the reporter. I think they could have completely cut her character if they weren’t going to pursue that storyline. Anyway, overall I liked it. Pretty much everything right out of the book, as expected.

That’s about it around here. Getting ready for Thanksgiving. Very exciting! :)

Burning building, TJ wins a football game, and rock climbing

Had the inspection for the condo on Friday. Conclusions: The floors will outlive us all and the circuit breaker will make the building burn down. I still maintain that if the building burns down, we will outlive the floors.

Went to the TJ-South Lakes game on Friday night. It was… interesting. TJ ended up winning 55-44, with the most missed extra points and 2-point conversions I think I have ever seen in a game. Funniest part was flipping through the program for the game and finding a coupon for 50% off brain surgery with coupon.

Saturday started out strangely. Went over to have a meeting with my parents. Apparently, they were a little unclear on my upcoming living arrangements. As Ben put it, they’re going to have a sin-in-law. What I took away from that discussion was that my mother would prefer that I lie to her. And while that was an option, it just really isn’t my style these days. (And yes, I know they’re reading this — Hi!)

Headed out to go yard saling in Ian’s neighborhood. Picked up a lifetime supply of yarn for $4, a purse, a like-new vacuum coffemaker The Librarian: Quest for the Spear film (with burner and accessories) which is awesomely cool to watch, and a couple of retro stools.

Went with Ian out to the Re/Max client appreciation picnic for the better part of the afternoon. I was promised a hot air balloon ride, but it got canceled due to the weather. We did, however, get to climb the rock wall a half dozen times and they even let us race through the obstacle course moon bounce thing. We also convinced our realtor to play too. She got totally schooled by her son in the obstacle course. It was great.

After that, went running and watched Muppet Treasure Island and Saturday Night Live and called it a night.

Sunday, I worked on a scarf that I started last year and didn’t really make much progress on. It’s about 8″ now. Went to look at bars at some place in Merrifield to get some ideas. The condo has a pretty long living room, so my idea for the back area of it was to build a bar, which would then be easily accessible from the living room or dining room and would be really cool for entertaining or just when I feel like having fresh root beer on tap. Did some brainstorming and then headed over to Ian’s parents’ for their family dinner thing and get his dad on board with the project. Still working on the design and possibilities of modifying pre-made furniture to our liking. We’ll see.

I think that’s about it for my weekend adventures. Also, if you’re interested: Pictures of the condo The Zombies movie download Fair Game divx

Weekend

Saturday, went over to the parents’ place for a “party” in celebration of Lenny’s graduation. There was a less than entertaining family fight. Not as spirited as usual, but, again, like Thanksgiving, it may have been because the whole family wasn’t together. In any case, there was lots of food and quantity family time.

Afterward, went with Yenny, Lenny, Ian, and Squidgey to see Unleashed. Weird movie. Good, but strange. Hung out with Ian for a bit after and watched last week’s Numb3rs. Happened to see this article

in the Post today. Yay math! Finished reading Cat’s Cradle. Also strange. Very cool though. Haha cool… I didn’t even mean it like that, but now I wish I had.

Anyway, Sunday started Just a Geek and hung out with Ian and his family for dinner. Listened to The Big Broadcast for a little while after dinner and then headed back. A pretty lazy Sunday overall.

Star Wars Spoiler and Aaron Dugo Update

.!.

Went out after work to catch Star Wars at the Uptown with Ian, Mindless, and a bunch of his WestWing Gang with others. Definitely better than the last two. There was a fair share of cheesy lines, especially in the scenes attempting to be romantic, but I think the good parts outweighed them.

Granted, that’s not actually him (I can only assume). But someone is doing a good job of advertising for him. And news to me: “He has a May 23rd court date.” Yes, folks. That’s Monday. Someone go hang out in court that day and find out how things go? Thanks. :)

Weekend recap

.!.

Thursday — stayed in. Watched Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead.

Friday — Was originally supposed to be movie day, but then Ian and I kept fixing things on my computer and ended up going grocery shopping instead. Went to get my free groceries from Wegman’s, stopped by my parents’ place to drop off some stuff, and got beer and chocolate from Whole Foods. Ended the evening at Dominion Brew Pub where Ian made friends with the bartenders and “waitress”/brewer.

Saturday — Family lunch day. Went over and hung out with the family. Then went over to Ian’s to laze around… at least that what I thought was planned.

Ian and I ended up in some apartment building with sniper rifles. We were shooting bad guys, though I’m not sure how we were certain that they were bad. After a while, the police came after us, but they let us have a 5 second head start. Well, a 5-second warning, actually. “Come out in 5 seconds with your hands up, or we’re coming in shooting.” Ian got away through some ordinary means. I, on the other hand, thought it was a good idea to jump out the window and scale down the wall, Spiderman-style. (It worked, of course.)

Off Limits buy I ran across a field toward where they were evacuating the people from the rest of the building. They were getting housed in a hotel nearby and by the time I got there, they were rounding everyone up for dinner in a large cafeteria-style room. As I was nearing the perimeter of the apartment complex to get to the hotel, I noticed some officers eye me. They must have been watching everyone though, because they needed to capture the snipers.

I see them follow me into the hotel. This isn’t good… How will they be any good at detective work if they can’t even follow me so I won’t notice them? Oh well. I try to blend into the crowds of the cafeteria. I sit down at a table and start to eat. I see the police start from opposite ends of the tables and work their way systematically across the room. As they near me, I stealthily move down the table and avoid eye contact.

Not stealthy enough, I guess. An officer catches me as I make an attempt to move again. He grabs my wrist and I drop my tray. I use my knowledge obtained from childhood and scream bloody murder, “OWW!! That hurt! Why would you do that to me?”

He attempts to defend his action, “That’s her! She’s the one we’re looking for.”

Beyond the Sea
I turn in toward him as he moves his hand and make a sound like he hit me. I fall to the ground, again crying out in pain. I start crying and yelling. “What kind of man are you? Please don’t hit me.” I cower away from him, looking around for help. I can’t tell if they’re buying it. The police officers close in…

They go for the other officer. “What kind of person does that?” “She’s an innocent little girl.” “That’s not the kind of reputation we want around here. What are you thinking? And in front of all these people…”

I sneak away while they reprimand the other officer. I wake up reassured of my abilities to exploit my powers of being a little girl.

Wow… I left work, went to the gym, went to my parents house and the sun was still out after I got there. I guess there is some good to daylight savings time.

Watched Silver City this weekend. Another movie that makes me feel like I need to be doing more with my life and I should be out there more making a difference in the world instead of wasting time arguing the same points with people who won’t listen. Spent the weekend baking and decorating Easter cookies with Ian. Sent some over with my mom to the Valentines. Delivered some to HOY, but no one was around at the time. Dropped by my parents’ house and hung out with my grandmother while she tried to force food on Ian. Brought some to a BBQ where there was some excellent food and we got to dye eggs. And brought some with us to Ian’s parents’ place for their Easter dinner thing. Will post pictures later when I stop being lazy. -j.download Eddie and the Cruisers II: Eddie Lives! dvd

Spent a good part of yesterday with Ian and a bunch of TLD’s friends helping TLD move. For some reason, the ceilings in the stairwells and the downstairs bathroom of the new place were extra low. The doorway was pretty narrow and the dining room light was hanging pretty low. I’ve never had to duck under a light fixture before. Ever. There were a number of minor casualties, but all in all, it didn’t turn out too bad.

Spent the evening over at the HOY, watched Garden State again, and then we all sat around surfing the internet together on Squidgey’s new shiney hooked up to the plasma. And fun was had by all.

Today was mostly napping and working on my blanket. Went with my sis for our weekly visit to the parents’ house. Tried to convince my parents to try a poly-phasic sleep cycle. Weekend recap

Friday — Cookie day! Baked Valentine cookies for distribution. Might bake more this weekend. We’ll see…

Spent the day with Ian and the evening with him, his brother, and his brother’s gf. Met some Mormons from Texas and California. Hung out and loafed.

Saturday — Went over to watch Princess Diaries 2 with Ian and my sis. Then, grabbed some food at Chipotle before heading out to the Brickskeller to meet up with Roy and some of his fencing friends. Tried to drink as much as I could drink, but still no luck. Met a bunch of cool people though, so that was cool. Overall, a pretty fun night.

Sunday — Attempted to attend the grand opening for Wegman’s, but saw the lines and just did a drive-by. There were so many people and there was additional parking over toward the government center, but it seemed too stressful to get in. Decided to just get lunch with Ian and head over to pack up boxes with my sis. Spent the evening over at the parents’ house collecting gossip. Now, time to read and get to sleep. :) -J.

LOTD: Things I hate about my Flatmate

Weekend recap

Friday — Went to Chipotle with Ian for dinner. Bumped into my sister there (not literally) and chatted for a bit. We had made plans to go see Sideways, but Ian had brought over Gilmore Girls for me, so we ended up watching about 10 episodes of that.

Saturday — Got lunch with Ian and then met up with Roy and Becca to see Million Dollar Baby. That was probably one of those movies I should have heard about or even seen a preview for or something, but I hadn’t. And I had no idea what it was about going in. Just in case anyone else doesn’t know, it’s not like Rocky. I liked it though. Very powerful. And not to give away the movie, but there is no twist ending. I just read an article on CNN saying there was a surprise twist ending, but I severely disagree.

Went out for dinner after the movie and then headed over to Crystal City for drinks. Hung out for a few hours and caught up on the last few weeks/years. Even though I barely knew Becca in high school, it was cool catching up with her. I think what I liked was that even though it was essentially hanging out with someone new, I didn’t have to go through the motions of “Where do you work?” “What do you do?” “Are you from the area?” “What’d you major in? What do you want to do with your life?” “Gee, the weather has been cold lately.” Maybe I’m just really bad at smalltalk. Or maybe the people I meet are just really boring. Who knows…

Went home and watched more Gilmore Girls…

Goal! III Sunday — hung out with my sister, her roomies, and one of my roomies for a little while before everyone headed out for various activities. They weren’t particularly interested in watching the game, so they went to the Cheesecake Factory while I took over her house and watched pre-game show with the dog. Looked for my bro in the shot of BAF, but didn’t see him. Ian showed up shortly after. The game was excellent, but the commercials were disappointing. I liked the FedEx commercial (10 things to make a good SuperBowl commercial) and the CareerBuilder.com commercials (chimps, but the guy says he works with a bunch of monkeys. Still a good commercial though). Stayed long enough to watch Simpsons and American Dad. American Dad was cool… Same type of humor as Family Guy, but without the kid with the football-shaped head and the talking dog.

Now, I’m off to work! :) -J.

Weekend recap

Did family stuff Thursday night after work, then went grocery shopping with my sis in preparation for the weekend festivities. Spent the evening watching Serendipity with Ian. Wasn’t bad, but not nearly as funny as Dodgeball, which we watched the evening before. I have to say, the premise of Serendipity was good and I kind of do like the sappy “if it was meant to be” kind of thing, but the characters were so stupid that I couldn’t force myself to root for them to get together in the end. They were being unfaithful to their significant others by searching for someone else whom they thought was their soulmate, while leading their SOs on and getting engaged/married. That’s stupid. Maybe I’m just naive in my little world, but if you want to be with someone other than the person you’re with, why are you wasting both your time waiting for someone better to come along? Because you can’t dump the current person until you have someone else better lined up. Gotcha.

download Sharpes Challenge dvd Friday was cookie-baking day. Made a double-batch of Maple Pecan cookies with Ian. Finished just in time to go to Ian’s bro’s New Year’s party. Made an appearance there. Met a few of his bro’s friends and started playing a game of Trivial Pursuit before heading over with Ian to the HOY for their New Year’s Extravaganza. Got to the HOY in time to play Scene It. Missed the ball dropping, so we gathered everyone around and replayed it. Technology is great. Making appearances included: Sis, Squidgey, Jas, HolidayTom, Eepie, JL2 & his 2 Jens, JL4, and Tommy & his bro. I hope I didn’t leave anyone out.

New Year’s Day was cookie day. Got up “early” to bake my batch of cookies, clean up a little, and then help Sean bake his cookies. Ate too many cookies, then went to bed excessively early.

Shark Tale

Been meaning to go watch Shark Tale and saw that it was showing over at University Mall. Went over with Ian and his bro and it was definitely better than the reviews made it out to be. No, it’s not Finding Nemo, but it’s still funny in a not-made-for-just-4-year-olds kind of way. If you go watch in the theater, sit through the credits. There’s nothing special at the end, but there are funny little things as you wait the credits out. That’s about all I have to say about that. :) -j.

Weekend Movies

Finally got around to watching Run Lola Run this weekend with Ian. It’s pretty good. The whole good people prevail, bad people suffer (or die) mindset. Weird, but good. Also saw Polar Express. Had everything from the book and then some added randomness to make it longer than a 20-page illustrated book. It was kind of distracting hearing Tom Hanks be all the voices, but it was cute. I saw in some of the reviews that the animation made the people look soul-less and had globs of clay in their mouths, but I think they were just nit-picking. Santa did look radioactive though. It was cool. Ok off to do the work thing… -j.
